Spied: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLK - LeftLane News

Mercedes-Benz has begun development of its next-generation GLK compact SUV. It is believed that Mercedes' new GLK will debut for the 2016 model year.

Although covered in graphic swirl camouflage, this GLK prototype lacks any kind of plastic cladding, giving us a good idea of what to expected on the styling front from the next-generation SUV. The 2016 GLK will largely retain the blocky styling that defines the current SUV, although it looks as though some rounded elements from the GLA will be incorporated into the utility's design.

Our sources have indicated that the 2016 GLK will debut about a year after the launch of the all-new C-Class sedan in 2015. The GLK will likely mirror the C-Class' drivetrain lineup, which should include a base four-cylinder, up-level V6 and fuel efficient diesel. We've also heard that Mercedes could be planning a hybrid version of the GLK.

All GLK models will shift via Mercedes' newest nine-speed automatic gearbox.

While we eagerly await the arrival of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLK, be sure to check out our review of the 2013 model.
