| NEW DELHI: The economy may be in a turmoil, but that does not deter global ultra-luxury carmakers to roll out new models in India. At a time when mainline car sales are at their weakest, British maker Rolls Royce announced the launch of Wraith, the two-door 624bhp coupe priced at Rs 4.6 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The Wraith is the latest addition to the line-up of Rolls Royce that includes Phantom and Ghost saloons. India is one of the foremost markets where the company is driving in the model that was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year. "India is a key destination for Rolls Royce, and one of the biggest in emerging markets," said Herfried Hasenoehrl, general manager for emerging markets (Asia) at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Rolls Royce — that shares a rich history with India's erstwhile royalty, who bought the cars in the pre-independence era — had re-entered the market in 2005, nearly 50 years after moving out. A growing economy and the rising number of millionaires and billionaires are among reasons that have seen ultra-luxury makers like Rolls Royce and Bentley launch models here as traditionally-strong markets of the West stagnate, and even decline. While refusing to share numbers sold in India so far, Hasenoehrl said the company is hopeful about the market's potential. "Sure these are testing times, but this is not an India-only phenomenon but something that we are witnessing across the globe. As far as India is concerned, we are confident about the market's potential as we move forward."Rolls Royce is expanding presence in India, and will be adding new dealerships. Apart from Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, the company will now open two more showrooms — at Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. "And, I plan to add two more next year. We want to go deeper into the market and stay closer to the customers." Globally, Rolls Royce sold 3,575 units of the hand-crafted cars in 2012 and Hasenoehrl said the company expects a growth in volumes this year. China and the US are the biggest markets for the BMW-group company that makes cars at Goodwood in England. Initial deliveries of the 6.6-litre Wraith, that can do 0-100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds, will start towards the beginning of next year. Most of the customers prefer to customize their cars, and it normally takes over three to four months to get delivery of Rolls Royce vehicles. via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNFVBbmyW-WEdZsG64Hk6B8RUW9cSQ&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/Rolls-Royce-drives-in-Wraith-at-Rs-4-6-crore/articleshow/21926555.cms | |||
