CHANDIGARH: All roads led to Sector 10 in the city on Sunday. Around 150 vehicles, including jeeps, sports utility vehicles, sedans and two-seater sport cars, took part in a car rally aimed at sensitizing people about observing traffic rules and to ensure women safety in Chandigarh.

"The Rally of Chandigarh," a Chandigarh Police initiative in association with The Times of India, was flagged off by deputy inspector general of police Alok Kumar around 5.15 pm from the parking of Government Museum and Arts Gallery, Sector 10. The rally culminated at a mall in Industrial Area, Phase I, after covering various sectors and Panjab University (PU). A stunt performance by bikers before the start of the rally enthralled the visitors.

People of various age groups welcom ed the rally and also took a pledge to obey traffic rules and make the city a safer place for women.

"City residents have shown great enthusiasm and the effort to sensitize people about obeying traffic rules has proved a success. We have also sent out a message that bike stunts should not be performed by youths," said Kumar.

Sandeep Gandhi, an advocate who was one of the participants, said, "This is an out-of-the-box idea and we are feeling proud as we are associated with this campaign. We all have taken pledge to obey traffic rules and to drive within the prescribed speed limit."
