Microsoft's figures for its cloud-based Office 365 solution show that the service exceeded 99.9% uptime between June 2012 and June 2013. In a blog post on Thursday, the tech giant revealed that the office and email service's uptime for the last four quarters was 99.98%, 99.97%, 99.94% and 99.97%. These figures are percentages of the total number of minutes each month that the Business, Government, and Education versions of Office 365 were available around the world. Experts said that although the figures looked good, individual businesses could still face outages simply because of the large number of workloads that the data covered. Microsoft was praised for releasing the data, which had been difficult for potential customers to obtain until this point. DSM's Eric Ijpelaar discussed innovations in cloud computing at The European Information Security Summit 2013, hosted by Business Technology. Business and technology leaders met at the summit to discuss security issues surround IT's role in business, and the best ways to overcome them.
