Mercedes Benz sells more cars than Audi India in July 2013 - Rush Lane

Mercedes Benz India has revealed that their sales figures for the month of July 2013 stand at 810 units, which is 105 units more than what was posted by India's No 1 luxury car maker, Audi India. Though it is clear that Mercedes have a upper hand as far as sales for July 2013 is concerned, it is still not clear whether this was enough to take the No 1 tag for the month, as BMW India have not revealed their sales figures.

Mercedes Benz entered in the Indian auto industry over a decade ago. They were the first luxury car maker and managed to dominate the segment for many years. They were dethroned by BMW India back in 2009. Later in 2012, MB was demoted to third when Audi India replaced them. Riding high on their product offensive strategy, earlier this year, they once again gained on their placement in India, as they shifted to No 2, as Audi took No 1 and BMW moved to No 3.

As far as monthly sales is concerned, compared to July 2012 sales figure, this is a 53% increase posted. For Jan-July period, MB India sales stand at 4,575 units, a growth of 22%, while that of Audi India stands at 5,551 cars with 19% growth rate. BMW India did not share their sales figures.

Speaking to TOI, Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes Benz India, said, "We are not surprised by our strong performance. We always maintained that we are sticking to our fundamentals and working towards a profitable and sustainable growth and as the product gaps start getting addressed, numbers will merely be a gradual outcome."
