The new Mercedes A-Class and CLA will soon have a high-riding cousin, with news this week that the GLA compact SUV is bound for the Frankfurt Motor Show. Revealed as a concept back in April, the GLA will debut as a long-expected rival to the small Q3 and X1 offerings from Audi and BMW. And, while overly streamlined and stylised, new artwork released today reveals that the production GLA's design will not stray far from the muscular look of its concept progenitor. Despite its meaty proportions, the GLA is only a little larger than its A-Class platform mate, measuring 4.38 metres long and 1.57 metres tall. Both models ride on the same 2.69 metre wheelbase. The cabin of the earlier concept also takes more than a few cues from the A-Class, while adding a number of bespoke showcar-only features. The GLA's engine options are also likely to mirror the A-Class and CLA sedan, right through to a top-shelf 265kW GLA 45 AMG hero model. Watch for more details to come at Frankfurt next month.
