Xolo Play T1000 With Tegra 3 Processor Launched!

Xolo began pre-bookings of their new Xolo Play smartphone with the Tegra 3 processor last week. The phone, aimed at hard-core gamers, is now officially launched by Lava and the phone sure packs a punch.

While the specifications were already announced by Xolo on their site, the launch highlighted some more features and gave better insight into the 'Gaming' aspect of the device.

Talking at the launch, Vishal Sehgal, co-founder and director at Lava International said, "As XOLO continues to be a differentiated player in the fast-growing smartphone market in India, the XOLO Play T1000 delivers outstanding performance and exceptional visual content. It offers quick, responsive and visually stunning game play, fast web-browsing and enhanced multi-tasking performance. Powered by NVIDIA Tegra's unique 1.5 GHz quad-core processor with an additional battery saver core and 12-core GPU, XOLO Play T1000 is a comprehensive entertainment powerhouse."

What about the specifications of the power-house?

Xolo Play, as the name suggests is a phone focusing intensely on smartphone gaming. The phone also comes with some strong specifications to support the heavy gaming Xolo is marketing the Xolo Play for.

Xolo Play is comes with a 4.7-inch fully HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The phone comes with One Glass Solution (OGS) Technology and supports multi-touch up to 5 fingers.

The most interesting aspect of the phone is the processor. As mentioned above, Xolo Play will feature a Tegra 3 processor. The phone is not a quad-core phone but a 5-core phone! Yes, that's right. The official specifications list that the phone will come with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor with a special "5th battery saver processor".

Considering the phone is a gaming special phone, the need to save battery is evident and looks like Xolo has equipped the phone with a special processor just to save battery. Our best guess is while the quad-core version will be used for heavy gaming, Xolo Play will relegate the mundane tasks like checking mails and messages, calls, etc to the single "battery saving" processor. Xolo did not detail any specifics of the fifth processor except that it will be a battery saving processor.

Apart from the 5-core processor, XOLO Play T1000 comes pre-loaded with TegraZone™, where consumers can find, explore and download Tegra-optimized Android games, for a console-quality gaming experience, with more realistic, interactive and challenging gameplay and graphics.

Xolo might be selling the phone as a 'gamers' phone but the internal memory is still pretty low at 4 GB. The memory can definitely be increased by an additional 32 GB using a SD card. The RAM is 1 GB.

While the phone's focus is definitely gaming and the hardware, Xolo has kept even camera enthusiasts in mind. The phone comes with 8 MP rear end camera and a 2 MP front-end camera. The phone comes with regular camera features and single LED flash.

One disappointment with the device is that it will be powered by Android Jelly Bean version 4.1 instead of the latest version 4.2. Also, the phone is pretty heavy and bulky at 167 grams! Xolo Play comes with 2000 mAh battery.

The smartphone is definitely upping the ante when it comes to gaming and specifications. Priced at Rs 15999, the smartphone is a definitely steal and if it lives up to the gaming promises, Samsung and Micromax have a tough competitor!
