Vodafone, Twitter tie up to get Twitter millions of new users in India. The blue bird "Larry" is now available for free to the Vodafone customers for a period of three months. In a joint collaboration that would be a blessing for the twitter fans across the country, Vodafone India, as part of its initiative to improve mobile internet adoption in the country, has joined hands with Twitter so as to provide its subscribers a free and unlimited access to the social networking site.
Meanwhile the tie up that took place on July 29 has raised doubts among experts who believe that instead of a sudden impact, such kind of tie-ups would lead to gradual increase only over the next three to five years. Recently, Bharti Airtel had collaborated with Google to offer its services for free. The experts believe that the move will achieve two objectives: To bring in some new users and thus creating a new revenue stream; To camouflage technicality data usage is associated with – bytes used, price per KB or MB – behind the application itself. Speaking about the association, Mahesh Uppal, Director of Com First India, said: "The attempt, a modest one arguably, is to promote data usage. Data unlike voice does not have a ready market. It will be a slow and uphill ride to develop that market. However it is still a priority for India."
