PMC, PCMC should develop PMPML properties: Dy CM

Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune Ajit Pawar attended a meeting in Pune on the working of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). He directed the two civic bodies, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), to undertake development of PMPML properties by themselves instead of appointing a company on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

The meeting held at the Circuit House was attended by city MLAs, members of Board of Directors of PMPML, standing committee members of PMC and PCMC, municipal commissioners of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad and ZP members among others. "PCMC has approved a plan to grant a 2.5 FSI for PMPML properties in Pimpri-Chinchwad region. The PMC should do the same. Last time, contracts were given to private firms on BOT basis and that proved detrimental for the cash strapped body.

"It is important that the PMPML benefits from the development and gets a steady flow of cash," Pawar said.

Pawar promised that the state government will also pitch in and help the public transport body to stand up on its own.

"There is also a proposal that the PMC and PCMC should reserve 2 per cent of its budget expenditure for PMPML. This also needs to be considered.

"Also the home department owes a good amount to the PMPML for the free transport facility provided to the policemen. The Pune ZP should also contribute some funds for PMPML as several villages outside the PMC and PCMC limits benefit from the service," he said.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and MLC Girish Bapat said that his party will support the proposal of permitting 2.5 FSI for development of PMPML properties.

"We will support the move if the PMC and PCMC develop the properties instead of giving out the contracts to private companies," Bapat said.
