Mercedes-Benz to assemble GL-Class at its Pune plant from August - Business Standard

German automobile maker Mercedes-Benz India on Friday said that it had plans to assemble its latest sport utility vehicle, the , at its Pune plant from August.

Currently it assembles the C-Class, , M-Class and the S-Class in India. Mercedes is currently importing the GL-Class as a completely built-up unit.

"We have plans to assemble GL-Class, a considering the response from the customers. Currently, we assemble the C-Class, E-Class, M-Class and the S-Class in India at our facility," said, Eberhard H Kern, managing director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.

He added the company was investing Rs 250 crore to double capacity to 20,000 units by 2014. Having sold 7,138 units last year, the company is expecting double digit growth in the current year.

Delhi contributes account for 45 per cent of the company's sales, while remaining 55 per cent is being contributed by the rest of the India.

Meanwhile, German luxury car maker today launched luxury executive sedan E-Class.
