Mahindra Two Wheelers on Monday took a fresh shot at the motorcycle market with the launch of a 110cc bike Centuro, priced Rs 45,000 (ex-showroom New Delhi). The company, which has been majorly into scooters, is hopeful of motorcycles contributing significantly to its sales. "About 75% of industry sales comes from motorcycles. We hope to mirror the industry," said Viren Popli, executive vice-president, Mahindra Two Wheelers. For this, the company is in the process of expanding its network and product portfolio. It had earlier said it intends to enter every motorcycle segment. The company on Monday said that it will launch a 300cc bike by this fiscal-end and a hybrid scooter, going ahead. The mass market category (bikes below 125cc) forms two-third of the overall motorcycle sales. The competition is intensifying with companies like Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Suzuki Motorcycles and Bajaj Auto expanding their product range in a market largely dominated by Hero MotoCorp. Mahindra Two Wheelers is offering the first 10,000 Centuros at a price of Rs 44,000 (ex-showroom New Delhi). The company has 900 touch points and plans to increase it to 1,100 in the next six months. Post the withdrawal of Stallio bike, the company has been working to enhance its research & development (R&D) capabilities. It has so far invested about Rs 100 crore on R&D of new products and plans to invest Rs 500 crore over the next few years. It is targeting revenue of Rs 20,000 crore by 2020 through its two-wheeler business. ![]() via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNEHvJo4iZAyu-SFgFKAzhYqNILgtA&url=http://www.dnaindia.com/money/1855971/report-mahindra-hopes-to-ride-bike-mart-with-centuro | |||
