After the LG made Google Nexus 4 and a Google Edition of the Samsung and HTC flagship smartphones, it's time for a water and dust resistant Google phone.
We might soon see a Google Edition of the Sony flagship launched this year, the 5-inch Xperia Z.
The phone is expected to be announced this July. "A Sony insider who wanted to remain anonymous has confirmed for us that the two companies will soon launch an Xperia Z Google Edition. Even though he couldn't confirm the exact release date of the Sony Xperia Z Google Edition, he said that the smartphone will be announced sometime in July" reports AndroidGeeks.
The Google Edition of Sony Xperia Z will come with stock Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (No Sony tweaked user interface). It is however, speculated that Google might bring the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to the new phone as the launch time might coincide.
Sony has already initiated an Open Source Project for Xperia Z and hence installing stock Android Xperia Z is already possible. The process could be cumbersome for users and hence the company thinks pre-loaded "stock Android would be warmly welcomed".
The phone will come be part of the same up on the Google Play store, along with its competitor Google Edition of HTC One, Galaxy S4. Like these two, the Xperia Z Google Edition will also sell in the US first, and will later roll into other countries.
The phone is expected to be priced at USD 599 (that is approximately Rs 34200). It "will probably receive a price tag of $599" says AndroidGeeks.
