Tata Motors, JLR to collaborate on new utility vehicle platform - Hindustan Times

In an effort to revive sagging sales figures, Tata Motors on Wednesday unveiled eight new variants across its passenger car and utility vehicle portfolio.

Small car Nano, hatchback Indica, entry-level sedan Indigo and utility vehicle Sumo have got upgrades, while the Nano, Indica and Indigo have also got CNG variants.

The refreshed versions of Indica, Indigo, Sumo and Safari have already hit the market, The new Nano will be launched next month, while the CNG range will become available at dealerships in the next three months.

A joint utility vehicle platform in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover is under development, as well, and a compact sports utility vehicle that may compete with Renault Duster is also in the works.

Tata Motors has been reeling under a sustained dip in its sales figures as the economic slowdown hit automobile consumption, with May seeing a near 46% decline. The company reported Rs. 312 crore losses in domestic business last quarter,  with only the luxury arm Jaguar Land Rover giving it any good news.

"We will launch new models we have defined our product portofolio till 2020," said Karl Slym, managing director, Tata Motors at the unveiling event at Tata Motors Pune plant.

He also indicated that the company will look at producing another small car at its under-utilised Sanand plant, which makes the Nano.

Trying hard to improve its customer service initiatives, Tata Motors is revamping its sales outlets across the country. Ranjit Yadav, president, passenger vehicle unit, Tata Motors said the company will have 150 revamped outlets by the end of this year.
