Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab 8.0 and the Intel powered Tab 10.1 - Inquirer

KOREAN HARDWARE MAKER Samsung on Monday announced two additional versions of its Galaxy Tab 3, adding 8in and 10.1in models to its lineup. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 looks nearly identical to the 8in Galaxy Note, although the firm seems to be pushing the device as more of an entertainment device than one for productivity. It also works as an ereader, Samsung claims, thanks to its "reading mode" technology that adjusts the tablet's backlight for comfortable reading. The Galaxy Tab 8.0 runs Google's Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, and Samsung has been quick to boast that it comes with features such as S Translator and Chaton, although it looks to be missing Eye Scroll and Smart Pause. There's no Intel processor, with the tablet instead opting for another dual-core 1.5GHz processor. There is, however, 1.5GB of RAM, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and a 4,450mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 isn't dissimilar to its 8in sibling, although the firm is touting it as the better tablet for entertainment, thanks to its large screen and TV output capabilities. Perhaps most interestingly, the Tab 10.1 comes powered by a 1.6GHz Intel processor, which Samsung confirmed to The INQUIRER in a statement.  It said, "In order to meet the demand from our vendor/carrier partners and provide a consistent high-quality experience for customers, Samsung has sourced components, including chipsets, from trusted partners." There are also 3MP and 1.3MP cameras, 16GB and 32GB internal storage options and up to 64GB of expandable storage. Samsung says that the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and 10.1 tablets will be available in the UK "later this year" in 3G, 4G and WiFi-only models.
