Rumor: 3 More Google Edition and 1 X Phones Expected in 2013 - The Droid Guy

In what proved to be a surprise to most of us, Google 'adopted' a version of Samsung's flagship smartphone the Galaxy S4 just a few weeks ago and dubbed it a 'Google Edition' phone and made it available with stock Android OS to 'give the users a pure Android experience'.  This was a surprise because in the past, Google had chosen to partner with device manufacturers to develop Nexus devices rather than just implement software changes to an existing device.  Soon we will be seeing a Google Edition HTC One if earlier rumors are anything to go by and reports indicate that we may be seeing 3 more Google Edition phones and a Google X Phone before 2013 comes to a close.

According to Android Authority, a source privy to the matter at Google hinted several other Google Edition phones that promise 'a Nexus experience' besides the X Phone that Google was developing in partnership with Motorola.  Already, rumors indicate that a Google Edition phone of Sony Xperia high end smartphone will be coming soon.  We assume that the Xperia is one of the three Google Edition phones we expect to be launched later this year.

Although the source that talked to Android Authority did not reveal who the maker of the next Google Edition phone is, speculations revolve around LG, which made the current Nexus 4 device, and Sony, which outed their high end flagship smartphone Xperia Z not too long ago.  According to Android Central and Android Geeks, Sony Xperia Z will join the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One already in the Google Edition club.

The Sony Xperia Z, being an AOSP project already and Sony's commitment to AOSPs, the report that a new version of Xperia Z will be a Google Edition phone is very believable.  On the other hand, Motorola is rumored to be making a flagship high end device of their own dubbed the X Phone.  It was rumored that the company was making this phone in partnership with Google but the latter pulled out just before the I/O conference last month, most likely to focus on the Galaxy S4 Google Edition phone project.  It is rumored that when Motorola, which is owned by Google, releases their X Phone device, Google will also have a Google Edition version to sell to its fans seeking an unadulterated stock Android experience.

Other rumors from a reliable source that talked to Android Authority also say that Motorola X will come this year but it may actually be a group of phones rather than just one phone.  Although the source indicated that Motorola will launch only one Moto X device this year, the X brand will be seeing a couple of more related smartphones over the next year.

Sony will be holding an event in Germany on the 25thof this month, an event where the company is most likely to unveil the Google Edition Xperia Z besides unveiling the leaked 6.44 inch Xperia ZU phablet also named Togari.  All these are rumors for now though, but there is a story behind all these speculations.  We will bring you this story as soon as we hear it.
