The new processors are expected to power 2-in-1 devices that give flexibility to consumers to switch between PC and tablet

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Chipset giant Intel unveiled its much awaited 4th Generation Core processors in the Indian market on Wednesday. With new capability, the company has also enabled 2-in-1 computing devices. The processor is based on Intel's innovative 22nm microarchitecture that delivers up to 50 per cent increased battery life.

The new 4th Generation Core processors, the company said, will usher in a new dawn of incredible 2-in-1 devices that give flexibility to consumers to switch between PC and tablet. Intel is optimistic about its adoption, while OEM vendors such as Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo are poised to launch their products powered with new processor, soon.

Intel Asia-Pacific product management and pricing director, Leighton Philips, said that they have embarked on a roadmap for purpose-built ultra book in 2011. "Consumers can enjoy Android and Windows 8 on same platform," he said. The stylus, introduced in mobile devices, he said, is getting adopted in new platform as well.

The 4th Generation Intel Core processors, according to Philips, facilitate enormous battery life with 10 to 13 days of standby power. The company, he said, also leveraged enhanced graphics, display and media capabilities and have natively-built video shake removing feature in new processors.

Intel South Asia sales and marketing managing director, Debjani Ghosh, believes that the new processor is just the beginning and they would closely work with the industry to bring it to the market in next 6 to 12 months. "We are enabling new experiences such as voice and gesture recognition, and fluid motion," she added.

The chip major is already working on perpetual computing, and during the recently-concluded Computex, has announced $100 million fund around it. "4th Generation core processors are first system-on-chip ever done for a PC. It gives birth to a new breed of 2-in-1 devices," Ghosh said.

The new Core processor is witnessing traction in the OEM space. Many of the major vendors are already gearing up for its adoption. Dell is all set to refresh XPS 12 convertible Ultrabook series with it by next week. HP is expected to come up with a full range of computing products, including All-in-Ones, before Diwali this year

Lenovo said that it would unveil All-in-One PC, based on 4th Generation Core processor, in the next couple of months.
