After repeated demands from concerned citizens across the country, Indian govt. has taken down 39 porn sites. But many say the government should take further action against more similar sites By Ubaid Finally there I a hope for millions and millions of people who don't want the porn to enter their houses. They have been demanding the government to take some concrete action on the issue, but so far their demands and their reasoning fell on deaf ears. It is ages ago when the government banned Savita bhabi. While the ban on the site was imposed, the makers of the porn diva brought her to their audience in new avatar on different platform and the government didn't take any action against those sites. But that was just one site. Now there are millions and millions of Indian porn sites that disseminate free porn material to the audience even without charging a single penny. Instead of charging they now earn money by putting banner ads on their websites and earn millions.
This easy availability of pornographic materials has started affecting our kids' growth from the very early age. Even children who don't want to see these materials and actually know nothing about them are enticed to watch them. Even searching for a Tom & Jerry video on youtube, many ads and videos appear on the site that have actually nothing to do with kids, but are meant for grown up and in many cases have vulgar contents. Now after being demanded for long, the Indian government has decided to put a blanket ban on several websites that allow users to share pornographic content. In an order dated June 13, department of telecom (DoT) has directed internet service providers (ISPs) to block 39 websites. Most of them are web forums, where internet users share images and URLs to download pornographic files. But some of these websites are also image hosts and file hosts, mostly used to store and share files that are non-pornographic. The Department of Telecom in its order said, "It has been decided to immediately block the access to the following URLs… you are accordingly directed to immediately block the access to above URLs."
