However, while the internet revolution has taken the world by storm and the era post 2000 can be accurately termed as the Internet Age, there are still countries where internet usage is not as wide-spread and as strong as required. India being one of those nations. While the world has quickly moved from the traditional PCs to hand-held devices and connectivity options like Wi-Fi hubs, LTE-Advanced, etc, India still lags far behind. Google, in abid to promote the usage of Internet in the country, has taken a step and launched the 'Start Searching India' campaign. The main aim behind this campaign is to let Indian users understand and discover the simplicity of the web. Google has taken such initiatives even earlier where the search giant took Google Internet buses in rural areas. As more and more people slowly jump in on the internet bandwagon, users need to be shown how simple and easy it is to use the World Wide Web.
Also, being one of the largest markets for phones, most of the population is getting their first taste of the internet via hand-held devices. Google wants Indians to explore the web world and understand how to hunt for articles. Speaking of the shift from traditional PC to hand-held systems, Sanseep said, "Today the next billion users are making the leap from no internet to mobile internet, without ever having used a desktop computer. It is in fact quite fascinating to see an overwhelming response from the youth dominated Chandigarh populace who have readily embraced the technology in their lifestyle. Chandigarh is believed to be one of the top cities when it comes to internet usage. It is great to know that cities like Chandigarh are using Google Search for their smallest of requirements." Strangely, it is not the popular technology hubs but small towns that are using the search engine the most and Google wishes to capitalise on the crowd by providing more information, thereby strengthening their hold in the market.
