Blackberry Q5 goes up for preorder ahead of 15 July release date - Inquirer

The Blackberry Q5 is available in black white and red

CANADIAN PHONE MAKER Blackberry's first mid-range Blackberry 10 (BB10) smartphone, the Blackberry Q5 has gone up for preorder in the UK.

The Blackberry Q5 was unveiled at the firm's Blackberry Live conference in Orlando last month and was touted as the first midrange smartphone to run Blackberry's BB10 mobile operating system.

Clearly aimed at BBM loving teens with its array of black, red, white and pink coloured models, the affordable Blackberry Q10 alternative features the same 3.1in 720x720 HD touchscreen, although this comes paired with a more basic full QWERTY keyboard.

The Blackberry Q5 also features a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, dual rear-facing 5MP and front 2MP cameras, 8GB of internal storage expandable to 32GB and a 2,180mAh battery. Of course it also runs the firm's BB10 mobile operating system, furnishing it with Blackberry Hub and Blackberry Balance.

UK website Unlocked-mobiles reports that it has started taking preorders for the Blackberry Q5 ahead of its release on 15 July. The retailer has priced the handset at £349.98 SIM-free with free delivery, and is offering the black and white models.

Once it is launched in just over a month, the Blackberry Q5 will also be available on contract, with Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U both set to offer the midrange BB10 handset.

Blackberry is betting a lot on its Blackberry Q5 smartphone, as its Blackberry Z10 and Q10 smartphones reportedly haven't been flying off the shelves so far.
