Apple by the numbers - CNET

Here are the latest numbers from Apple on product sales and more, courtesy of the company's Worldwide Developers Conference.

At its annual WWDC on Monday, Apple served up the latest numbers for its devices, apps, and operating systems.

  • Mac installations: 72 million, more than double the number from five years ago
  • Mac sales: Have risen 100 percent over the past five years, vs just 18 percent for Windows PCs
  • Mountain Lion sales: 28 million since its debut, making it the best selling release of Apple's desktop OS
  • Apps in App Store: 900,000 apps
  • Number of apps geared for the iPad: 375,000
  • Number of apps downloaded since the the App store opened five years ago: 50 billion
  • Number of store accounts in the App Store: 575 million
  • Amount Apple has paid developers to date: $10 billion
  • Amount paid just this year: $5 billion
  • Number of Apple retails stores around the world: 407
  • Number of customers who visit an Apple Store each day: 1 million
