Renault Duster snatches the title of highest selling SUV from Mahindra Scorpio - Motoroids

There is no denying that the Duster Compact SUV has done a world of good to the Indian subsidiary of Renault. The Duster is currently the highest selling model in Renault India's product portfolio and is responsible for the major chunk of sales from the carmaker. Such is the case with Renault India's total car sales that the Duster contributes to 80% of the car maker's total sales in India. The Duster SUV has been selling in great numbers ever since it has been launched and while the Premier Rio has to be the first compact SUV of our country, the Duster can be safely termed as the first 'modern compact SUV' of India. The Duster has been almost flying out of Renault India dealerships right from the word go and it has now emerged that the popular compact SUV has displaced the Mahindra Scorpio from the top of the SUV sales chart in the country. As per a report in Business Standard, Renault India sold as many as 6,300 units of Duster, considerable more than the 4,700 Scorpio SUVs that Mahindra sold. The Scorpio was at the very top of the Indian SUV sales chart since quite some time now. However, the Scorpio, even after a zillion upgrades, is fast getting dated and we aren't too surprised that a large number of SUV buyers are shifting towards buying more modern cars such as the Duster. Commenting on the achievement by the Duster, Mr. Sumit Sawhney, executive director, marketing and sales at Renault India, said: "The Duster is a very well accepted product in the market. This gives us the confidence for a better performance. We have made additions to the product which has helped us achieve incremental volumes". It remains to be seen if the Duster is able to maintain its lead over the Scorpio.
