OnCars India Buzz: 24 May 2013 - On Cars India

- Electronic Arts (EA) have announced the next installment in its NFS franchise. Dubbed, 'Need For Speed Rivals; the new episode promises to revolutionize the entire saga and taking the battle between cops and street racers to a whole new level. NFS Rivals is being developed by EA's freshest studio, Ghost Games who in-turn are working with Criterion Games. NFS Rivals is slated to release on November 19, 2013. Furthermore, Ferrari has agreed to return to NFS after a seven-year long wait. Which means, you will get to race the cops in the F12 Berlinetta!

 

- A few weeks back we had reported that the Micra facelift was slated for its Indian launch by the month of May. We had also mentioned that the facelift shown in Thailand, won't be the same model for India. Now we learn that like the delay of the Sunny CVT's launch, even the launch of the Micra facelift has been postponed to the months of June-July. 

 

- Nissan India is eyeing a target of nearly trebling local sales to one lakh units this fiscal from just 37,000 units last fiscal, and ruled out possibility of integrating its currently outsourced sales, service and marketing activities with itself. The company is also expected to roll out four models this fiscal, including two variants and one from its Datsun brand, apart from opening more dealerships and focusing on marketing.

 

- Nepal's automotive market is about to get another new product, and much like the Tata Vista D90 that was introduced in Nepal a few days ago, this one's too an exciting automobile. According to a report, Ford is planning to launch the EcoSport in Nepal as soon as the bookings start in India, which is scheduled to happen in June.

 

- Delhi based civil liberty organization People's Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) has accused auto major Maruti Suzuki India for violating workers' rights in its factory at Manesar in Haryana - following this week's incident where Maruti Suzuki workers and their families were lathicharged by Haryana cops, while they were sitting on a peaceful dharna at the Mini Secretariat, demanding release and reinstatement of nearly 147 workers who are in Gurgaon jail.

 

- Ssangyong Motor Co, part of the Mahindra Group, today said it has received 80 billion Korean won, which is about Rs 400 crore from its majority shareholder Mahindra Group in lieu of the new shares offered to the Indian firm.

 

- Ford India has officially confirmed that its EcoSport compact SUV will go on sale in India next month. The information was circulated by Ford's marketing team to who registered for more information on the EcoSport on the company's official website. 

 

- The Renault-Nissan alliance that has birthed Renault Pulse - rebadged Nissan Micra and Renault Scala - rebadged Nissan Sunny in the Indian market will now spawn a new Renault Duster-based Nissan crossover. However, we hear that this particular Nissan Duster will be the last badge-engineered product from the alliance. Post, Nissan Duster, the Japanese and the French company will go on their own way.

 

- Alfa Romeo's design and marketing staff has created a new special series of its Giulietta compact hatch for the UK market. Dubbed 'Collezione', which is Italian for 'collection' the series brings some new colours, styling updates and features to the Giulietta range. The Collezione series is being offered in a choice of three base colours with contrasting roof shades. These include Solid Black with a matte magnesio grey top, and the Alfa Red and Ghiaccio White colors, both of which feature a solid black roof.

 

- German automaker BMW has announced an exclusive limited edition 7 Series V12 Bi-Turbo in Japan. Powered by 600PS coming from its twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12, this Japan exclusive 7-Series sports an M aerodynamic package that comes with dark chrome finish for the exhaust tailpipes and kidney grille and 21-inch V-spoke alloys wheels. 

 

- Nissan has launched the recently unveiled 2014 370Z in the UK, with a price tag of £36,995 (Rs 31.08 lakh). This new flagship 370Z gets minor revisions in terms of looks and driving dynamics, and aims to take on the Porsche Cayman for the title of the best entry-level sports car.
