Google is all set to unveil subscriptions for some of YouTube's more popular video channels, according to this report by Financial Times. The report adds that the move has been in the works for months, could be announced as early as this week and will apply to as many as 50 YouTube channels. Subscriptions could start at $1.99 per month which is around Rs 107 and could prove to be a new source of revenue for the popular video site. However in a statement to Mashable YouTube said, "We have nothing to announce at this time, but we're looking into creating a subscription platform that could bring even more great content to YouTube for our users to enjoy and provide our creators with another vehicle to generate revenue from their content, beyond the rental and ad-supported models we offer." While YouTube might prefer to keep mum on the whole subscriptions talk, previously AndroidPolice had spotted code found in the most recent YouTube app update which indicated that users could subscribe and unsubscribe from a paid channel.
