Now finally after more than a year beta is gone and Swype keyboard cometh to Google Play for Rs 50 in India for vernacular lingos Believing in the concept of Glocalization, Nuance has gone a step ahead and launched the latest version of its Swype keyboard for Android smartphones and tablets which supports four Indian languages-Tamil, Urdu, Hindi and Hinglish (a mixture of Hindi and English)- thereby allowing the Swype users in India to choose from the different languages while using the Swype keyboard. The keyboard that has been released for the first time on the Google Play Store, is avialble at introductory price of $0.99 or Rs 54, though a 30 day trial is available as well. Swype allows people to swipe their finger from one letter to the next to input text – or tap, speak or handwrite letters, numbers and symbols. With more than 500 million users worldwide, Swype keyboard makes typing faster and it was the first keyboard to offer continuous touch input.
Apart from the inclusion of the local languages, the updated software has come up with what it calls 'Expanded living language dialect support'. This feature offers users local dialects that might only be useful in that respective country. For example in case of Indian English, the software automatically updates the Swype dictionary with popular Indian words. It currently supports 20 dialects including those from Singapore, France, Australia, and the US. Further the latest version has Smart Touch, in which the the app adjusts to the user's personal input patterns meaning that if you were to constantly tap between letters like the G and H keys in order to input a G in your message, Swype would learn and adapt to those patterns. The other feature in the version called smart reselect, where Almost like spelling and grammar checks in Microsoft Word, a user can select any word in Swype to edit it. The app will look at the selection and offers better replacement options by looking at both the words before and after it in order to understand the context. The app is also capable of following the user from one device to another with Backup and Sync. Despite the launch with the added features, Swype is surely late in reaching Google Play, and faces a stiff competition from third-party keyboards like SwiftKey and SlideIT have been in the Google Play Store since quite some time and have been quite popular as well. Rubbishing the talks of any competition and threat from the already existent third party keyboards, Mike Thompson, executive vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile, said: "Swype was a game changer when first unveiled, and ever since, it has continued to set the bar for intuitive and intelligent keyboard innovation – so much so that others have tried to follow. Based on the incredible success of our beta program and our vocal customers, we decided to extend the power of Swype to more Android users through Google Play. Android users deserve the best keyboard – settling for an alternative is no longer necessary. It may be recalled that was for the first time that Swype was made available in the market publicly. Earlier, the app was only available through phone manufacturers and also through its beta usage. Meanwhile, the company still maintains its OEM partnerships, and is now providing those using Android devices that don't have the app built in, the chance to experience its keyboard.
