Sony Xperia SP - Complete Features and Specifications - Indiatimes.com

Sony has launched the Xperia SP, which was globally announced last month, in India. The phone, which falls slightly short of the premium level, comes with some high-end features. The phone is an extension of Sony's Xperia line and the second hi-end phone launched in India after the Xperia Z. Sony Xperia SP might be priced in the higher range but Sony is offering some freebies to sweeten the deal.

Sony Xperia SP comes with a 4.6-inch display screen fitted with Sony's Bravia engine. While most phones in the Xperia range come with the Bravia engine, the Xperia SP comes with the latest Bravia 2 technology. The phone is powered by the latest version of Android Jelly Bean out of the box.

Considering the phone isn't a flagship model, the phone comes with just a dual-core processor. The processor under the hood is a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960Pro Snapdragon version. Sony has endowed the phone with a generous 8 GB internal memory (of which 5.8 GB is user available) and a 1 GB RAM. With a dual-core processor and a sufficient 1 GB RAM along with the internal memory, the phone shouldn't be laggy. The phone also comes with a memory card slot for expansion of memory up to 32 GB.

The main camera is an 8 MP camera with a front facing VGA camera for video-calling. The camera supports standard functions of geo-tagging, auto-focus,  touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, HDR, etc. The camera comes with a single LED flash and supports sweep panorama mode.

The phone's connectivity options are the standard and supports 2G, 3G as well as 4G and Wi-Fi. The phone also boasts of NFC, Bluetooth ver. 4.0 and USB. The device is available in three colours: White, Red and Black. The phone is pretty heavy at 155 grams. The battery is a massive 2,370mAh and promises up to 10 h 25 min talk-time in the 2G mode and 635 hours of stand-by time.

Priced at Rs 27,490, the phone will be available in India mid-April onwards. Though there are additional features and the phone comes with Sony's Bravia quality, there definitely are better options in the market at cheaper rates. Sony might have committed a faux pas with the pricing of their Xperia SP. Though Sony does throw in a Xperia SP case worth Rs 1990, we're not sure if the freebie will endear the phone to Indian customers.
