Amazon.com today announced that it would expansion its Android Appstore to over 200 countries. The store will soon be available in India as well.

Amazon has asked for developers from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, India, South Africa, South Korea, and even Papua New Guinea and Vatican City to submit their apps and these will be made available in the coming months when the Amazon Appstore for Android launches internationally for consumers. Amazon has recently taken its Appstore for Android to UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.

Amazon's Kindle Fire runs Android but this is a heavily altered version of Google's popular mobile OS. The Kindle Fire does not have access to the official Google Play Store but instead it has Amazon's own AppStore.

Its safe to assume that we could see Kindle Fire Devices hitting stores in India this year.

As far as monetization goes, Amazon's press release mentions P2 Games a UK based publisher of interactive games. "We launched our Kindle Fire version of Peppa Pig in January 2013 and within a couple of weeks we saw the sales on Kindle Fire overtake Google Play to a factor of four or five times," Peter Sleeman, Director, P2 Games Limited is quoted as saying.

Clearly Amazon is keen to show developers that the international launch will benefit them as the apps on its Android Store have done well.

As far as tablet sales go, Amazon was at number three in top five tablet vendors across the world, according to IDC data. The expansion of its own App Store indicates that Kindle Fire devices will be retailed in more countries.
