Small scale industries seek better facilities - Times of India

PUNE: Small scale industries in Pimpri Chinchwad have complained to the municipal corporation about lack of proper roads and other civic amenities in industrial areas.

A delegation of the Pimpri Chinchwad Small Industries Association (PCSIA), led by Nitin Bankar, met municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi last week. Pardeshi promised the delegation that the municipal corporation will take steps to address their grievances.

There are about 8,000 small industries in municipal limits that employ around two lakh people. Bankar said the internal roads in Kudalwadi (Chikhli) and other parts of industrial areas are in a bad condition. "The municipal corporation charges Rs 35 per 1,000 litres of water whereas the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) charges Rs 20 for the same a mount of water. So, most industries get water from the MIDC," said Bankar.

The Association also complained about lack of proper garbage disposal. "The waste is thrown in the open. At times it is burnt which results in pollution. The Association has identified 80 locations where garbage bins are required. Besides, the municipal corporation had promised to give 4,500 potted plants to small scale industries. However, industries have not received them yet," Bankar said.

"The civic body earns 70% of its income from octroi paid by industries. Besides, it charges property tax. The PCMC is collecting drainage benefit tax from industries for the past several years but there are no drainage lines in industrial areas. So, we want the drainage lines to be laid immediately," he said.
