Lava's quad-core Xolo Q800 at Rs12,499 may dampen Sony Xperia Z release - Daily News & Analysis

Xolo, a sub brand of Lava International launched another quad-core smartphone in the Indian market, called Xolo Q800 at a competitive price of Rs12,499.

Xolo's quad-core phone is available in the market just before a day when Sony's quad core smartphone Xperia Z, priced at Rs 38,990, is scheduled to hit the market. This move may prove to be a dampener for Sony.

The main features of Sony Xperia Z are:
1. 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor.
2. A 5-inch full HD screen. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080.
3. The device runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
4. It has 2GB RAM and up to 16GB of memory space. This is expanable to 32GB via a microSD card slot.
5. It also supports 4G/LTE band for high-speed Internet. The smartphone is touted as a water and dust-resistant device.
6. It has a pretty heavy duty rear camera with 13.1 megapixels, as well as a 2.2MP front-facing camera. The device supports Near field communications (NFC).

The main features of Xolo Q800 are: :
1. The Xolo Q800 runs of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a 4.5 inch IPS panel display with qHD (540 x 960 Pixels) resolution. It does not have HD screen, but has a decent pixel density in relation to the size of its screen.
2. It also comes with an 8-megapixel BSI rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel one on the front. The rear camera can shoot 720p videos and supports various modes of shooting and lighting. The device also comes with 4GB internal memory, expandable up to 32GB via microSD cards.
3. The handset features an 8-megapixel rear facing shooter capable of 720p HD video capture and around the front is a 1.2-megapixel unit. There is also a Yamaha 168 PA music system, dual SIM support, 3G (HSPA+), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 2,100 mAh battery unit.
4. The Xolo smartphone has a 2100 mAH battery with c laimed 16 hours of talk time which is definitely great as Micromax Canvas HD provides only 5 hours of talktime.

Even though Xperia Z is way ahead than Xolo Q800 in many parameters, the latter might prove to be a reasonable choice with decent specs.

In the quad core battle, the Jiayu G4 and Karbonn Smart Titanium 1 are two other soon to be launched such devices.
