This is definitely going to be year of phablets. Smartphones with a 5-inch screen and perhaps larger aren't going away any time soon.

Now according to a report on ZDNET, via The Korea Times, Samsung is working on an eight-core 5.9-inch phablet. The report in The Korea Times quotes a Samsung official who spoke anonymously stating that, "Samsung is working on introducing a new phablet using a 5.9-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen."

The report also states that this new device will have an Exynos octa-core chipset but will unlikely come with flexible display technology that Samsung had displayed the Consumer Electronics Show this year.

Samsung's 5.9-inch phablet might sound too big  but 5-inch is the new okay in smartphones. From LG's Optimus Vu to the latest Xperia Z which was launched in India just recently, your smartphone screensize is unlikely to decrease.

In fact, earlier at the Mobile World Congress in Spain, Asus had launched its FonePad and Samsung had launched the Galaxy Note 8.0, both of which are tablets that can make voicecalls as well.

Samsung is all set to relese its Galaxy S IV next week on 14 March in New York. You can check out all the rumoured features  around the smartphone here.
