Internet slowdown didn't affect India says Sibal: India slowest in net speed - Northern Voices Online

Kapil Sibal has said that Internet slowdown has not affected India. But to be true India is slowest when it comes to internet speed

Internet slowdown has affected much of the world for the last several days. DDos attacks across the world have made life miserable for people who depend on internet for doing most of their work. In many places even checking a simple email has become an arduous task given the slowdown of the internet. But India has largely been left unaffected by this whole slowdown and companies haven't experienced any issue with either the speed of the internet or in its access.

NVONews was the first to point out the fact and now India's communication minister has also made the same assertion. Cabinet Minister Kapil Sibal said yesterday that internet slowdown was not experienced by India and internet services largely functioned normally over the course of the last few days. The internet slowdown has been caused by massive and sort of unprecedented attack targeting Spamhaus. The anti-spam company has said that it is the worst attack not just against it but against the internet as a whole.

Though the minister said that the net services were not affected in India much, he admitted that servers in the south were affected. "There was a very marginal impact. Only BSNL services were affected, that too in the south. North India largely remained unaffected. Private service providers were unaffected". He went on to add, "Advisories will only be issued if there are long term impacts. We are hoping that by evening we will be in a better position to understand the situation".

Meanwhile Spamhaus boss Steve Linford whose company has been under attack for several days told BBC "We've been under this cyber-attack for well over a week…They are targeting every part of the Internet infrastructure that they feel can be brought down". Meanwhile India being unaffected may be because of the fact that we still look primitive when it comes to internet speed. It is already very slow. Many of us have to do with just 256 kbps speed while fortunate ones get 512 kbps speed.
