In India, Volkswagen passenger cars delivered 4,600 vehicles as compared to 5,800 units delivered in January 2012. This equates to 19.9% sales decline for the month. The numbers are not a surprise altogether as SIAM reports January 2013 passenger car sales decline in India was 12.45% when compared to January 2012. Total passenger vehicles sales decline was 4.62% for the same month. Keeping in mind low sales, Volkswagen India is leaving little to chance and has worked on customer response initiatives.
From 13th January – 13th February 2013 the Volkswagen Lucky 13 campaign was open to all who booked a a VW Polo or Vento sedan with the 13th minute of each hour being especially important. A day after the campaign end date, own a Volkswagen Vento offer was introduced in India. Buyers can now take home a Volkswagen Vento sedan for 50% of the price from 14-17 February 2013. Those opting for the scheme can purchase a Vento at half the cost, i.e., Rs 4 lakhs, and pay the balance a year later. This week, Volkswagen Polo SR was introduced inthe Indian auto market with a launch price of Rs. 6.27 lakh (ex showroom New Delhi). Powered with a 1.2L petrol engine, you're looking at 75 PS of power in the Polo Sport Racer's engine mated to a 5 speed manual transmission system. Fuel efficiency stands at 16.27 kmpl.
Despite severe constraints in the automobile industry all across the globe, Volkswagen Passenger Cars have opened the new year on a profitable note. The company has registered deliveries in January to the tune of 491,000 vehicles, up 17.4% as compared to the same period in the previous year, when deliveries stood at 419,000 units.
Sales across European markets continued to be strained with deliveries seeing a fall in the first month of the current year. Sales across Europe stood at 116,900 units, a fall of 6.8% as compared to 125,500 units in January 2012. Deliveries in Germany were down 12.3% and stood at 60,600 units as against 69,100 units in January 2012. In North American markets, Volkswagen Passenger Cars effected deliveries to the tune of 43,800 units in January 2013 as against 39,600 units in January 2012. In the US, the company delivered 29,000 units in January 2013 as compared to 27,200 units in January 2013 while in South America, sales rose 5.1% to 46,100 units as compared to 43,800 units in the same month of the previous year.
