They came, but somewhat dispiritingly were perhaps the least interesting aspect of the meeting. Killzone Shadowfall was technically impressive but mildly tedious, shiny environments and ferocious explosions displaying the PS4's grunt, but housing the same shooting we've been experiencing for a long time now. Knack was an interesting Pixar-alike adventure. Infamous Second Son looks exciting if developer Sucker Punch can inject some much needed humour into the franchise. Meanwhile, Revolution's detailed racing sim Drive Club is picking up interest due to the sheer enthusiasm of its demonstration. But as good as all these games appear, they seem to be visual improvements on tried and tested formulas. This will be a stigma that needs to be shaken. It is very early in the PlayStation 4 process of course. And one would hope that there will be more innovation to supplement the improvement in graphical fidelity. Possibly the highlight of the conference was seeing Media Molecule create detailed animations using the Move controller, which will also be compatible with the PS4. At the current time, Media Molecule haven't announced a new game but suggested that their use of the Move tech in today's demo will find itself in Little Big Planet 3 or whatever they develop next. The overriding feeling is that Sony performed strongly. Much of what was announced was expected, but in the positive way that can only come with a natural transition. The jump from the PS3 to the PS4 was never going to be huge in sheer power terms, but the features Sony is providing are potentially brilliant. All the initial changes to connectivity makes sense for today's world. One condition on that is that many of Sony's speakers used qualifiers such as "soon" and "eventually", in an attempt to manage expectations. That's the one caveat that must come with this. These are announced features that represent Sony's ideals, rather than finished products. How the PlayStation 4 turns out in practice remains to be seen, but it is encouraging that Sony's vision for its next consolea seem clear, bright and focussed. via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNE521JFmWC25hXvx88_OVSLeikazQ&url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/playstation/9884835/PlayStation-4-a-console-for-the-always-online-generation.html | |||
