Reports suggest that the Finnish tech giant has decided to slash the prices of its top ranked Windows Phone 8 handsets in the country. Nokia is betting big on its Windows Phone 8 handsets and so far there have been very encouraging signs across the world. Nokia Lumia 920 is among the best handsets in the market and competes well with the top ranked smart-phones including Cupertino based Apple and Korean tech major Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3. With Apple's graph rising steadily in India in the last few months –it has become the second most profitable smart-phone vendor in the country after Samsung in terms of revenue–Nokia is desperate to do something drastic to improve its prospects in the fast expanding smart-phone market in the country. A senior official of Nokia India, D Shivakumar told a leading newspaper in India that his company was planning to make the handsets more affordable. "You will see more traction as we plan to expand the Lumia range and make it more affordable. Most markets in the IMEA region, except South Africa, have embraced the open-distribution model where handsets are not subsidised by service providers. Worldwide, there are two different business models — one, where the handset is subsidised by the operator, and the other where a consumer buys the phone independently. Since it is the latter model in most IMEA markets, Nokia aims to have a range of value points for it to attract various types of customers", said D Shivakumar. Indian smart-phone fans have been impressed by Nokia's Lumia 920 and its lower version Lumia 820. But both the handsets seem to have been priced very high and they are well beyond the affordability level of consumers in India. This is the reason that the handset hasn't been able to get the sort of response it should have got in the market. It is very disappointing for the Indian smart-phone users that they cannot buy the best handset merely because it has been insanely priced. Its top handset Lumia 920 comes with best specs.
