Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday launched its premium sports utility vehicle G63 AMG in Mumbai, replacing the G55 AMG that was launched two years ago to strengthen its growing SUV brand ahead of its German arch rivals such as BMW and Audi. "The luxury car segment is growing well in India, and the SUV segment is growing faster and Mercedes-Benz is the leader in the SUV segment in India. Our new G63 AMG is the most powerful and fastest SUV ever with cult following in India and abroad," Eberhard Kern, managing director and CEO at Mercedes-Benz India told Financial Chronicle. With a sticker price tag of a whopping Rs 1.46 crore at showrooms in Mumbai, the car is the latest iteration of the iconic G Wagon, which is a historically significant flagship SUV model for the German company, he said. The all terrain new SUV, imported from Germany to India as a completely built unit, comes with a 5.5 litre supercharged AMG engine. The vehicle has the power to zoom from 0-100 km in less than 5.5 seconds, the company said. "The G Class is the longest serving vehicle in series production for the company and is currently in its 34th year," it said. Mercedes-Benz India, which has been relegated to a distant third in the last couple of years in the growing Indian luxury market by fasted growing German archrivals BMW and Audi, has begun its offensive to regain its lost glory. In the calendar year 2012, BMW sold 9,375 units, Audi 9,003 units and Mercedes-Benz 7,138 units. Kern said the company had planned out a strategy to go on the offensive in the domestic market to increase its market share and position in the luxury car market and aggressively pushing its sales in the growing luxury segment in the country. "This year, we have decided to be on the offensive, and the launch of the G63 AMG is the first step in that direction," Kern said, adding that the company had planned four more new model launches this year to take on the rivals. Mercedes-Benz India, which had phenomenal success with its premium hatchback B-Class petrol version in India since its launch last year, is now gearing to launch the diesel version this year. Kern also said besides strengthening Mercedes-Benz dealer network, it will also focus on the cost of ownership to boost sales. ![]() via Technology - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNF-mNpZLOkc4xs1D-8pDVVrYrfx4w&url=http://www.mydigitalfc.com/news/mercedes-benz-drives-iconic-g63-amg-india-959 | |||
