The infographic in HTC's blog entry.(Credit: HTC) HTC has a "new camera and sound experience" lined up for 2013, according to the Taiwan-based company's latest blog entry. The infographic runs through a (rather long) history of photography, and even takes a potshot at Nokia's 808 PureView, with a reviewer's quote that "it won't help you at all". While the blog entry didn't elaborate on what the "new camera and sound experience" would entail, we're guessing that it probably involves its next flagship smartphone codenamed "M7". The company has sent out media invites to an event on February 19 in London and New York. According to tech Web site Pocketlint, the HTC M7 will ditch megapixels in favor of "ultrapixels". What this means is that the camera will consist of "three 4.3-megapixel sensor layers combined to give a resulting single image". It may sound like the Nokia 808 Pureview's "pixel oversampling technology", but is actually more similar to the Foveon X3 sensor by Sigma. The sensor captures colors using three layers of pixels, unlike conventional sensors which capture colors on a single layer. While HTC has pushed out pretty innovative camera features on its One series of smartphones (ie., ImageSense technology), its handsets have not been known for their imaging prowess. Hopefully, if Pocketlint's sources turn out to be on the money, the M7--and "ultrapixels"--will help it get back in the game. Click here for the full infographic.
