Best buy on Valentine's Day: Micromax A116 Canvas HD for Rs 13990 - Northern Voices Online

There is no doubt that it is the best buy on Valentine's Day. Micromax A116 Canvas HD for Rs 13990 can be a great gift for the loved ones

Tomorrow is valentine day and India's leading smart-phone vendor is set to launch its best handset in the market. Though I am not sure as to why Micromax is launching its A116 Canvas HD smart-phone or phablet in the market tomorrow, but some people have suggested that the company wants to exploit the Valentine Day frenzy that seems to have caught the attention of generation Y in India.

The company is well aware of the fact that around fifty percent smart-phone owners belong to the age group of below 25 years. So there cannot be a better opportunity to launch a product when this generation is ready to splurge. Though Rs 15000 still look a huge amount for people below 25-years of age, nonetheless it is the best opportunity for launch as people want to spend money on their near and dear ones.

To be true, Micromax A116 Canvas HD looks very enticing for not just those people who want an entry level handset, but also for people who want to get the best out of their hard earned money. The handset looks as good as Samsung's Galaxy S3 and comes with the best specs and great features.

The handset comes with a huge body. A116 Canvas HD comes up with a 5-inch 720p IPS display aside from its predecessor Canvas 2 A110's meager display. The new screen offers better pixel density of 294-ppi, which is the same resolution you can see on the first-gen Galaxy Note. The Galaxy Grand has a WVGA resolution with the same screen size. So, the Micromax phone does well in this department. It is not clear whether the handset will have any scratch-resistant technology.

As far as its processor is concerned, it is power packed. One of the key attractions of the handset is its quad core CPU. Micromax has slotted in MediaTek's MT6589 SoC onboard A116 Canvas HD. It is encased inside a quad core ARM Cortex-A7 processor that is backed by PowerVR Series5XT GPU and 1GB RAM. The CPU makes use of a slightly older ARM architecture; however, it can provide nice performance. Little is known about the device's multimedia capabilities. It supports 1080p video recording and some other features.

Though it will not come with Android 4.2 Jelly bean, it will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. Of course, it is one of the major attractions of the phone. Among a crowd of handsets with older software, the A116 can shine well with the latest Jelly Bean update. However, we are not sure when the device will get the next Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The current Jelly Bean version brings many nice features like Project Butter for better CPU performance, enhanced Google Now, better camera app and more.

Another aspect that will entice Indian consumers is its Dual SIM GSM and 3G options. You can use two SIMs inside the handset and keep network connectivity with two carriers, at the same time. Business users can now buy the phone to maintain different carriers separately for personal and business uses. Support for 3G can bring better internet connectivity to the handset.  Sorrowfully, the Canvas HD A116 packs only 4GB of internal memory. It can, however, be expanded up to 32GB slotting in external memory sticks to a microSD card slot.

When it comes to camera, it competes well against top Android handsets. The Micromax flagship has good cameras, indeed. Meeting with the standards, the phone mounts an 8MP rear camera with 1080p video recording. Unfortunately, it is not a BSI sensor that you can see on the XOLO A800. Regarding front facing camera, the phone packs a VGA resolution sensor for video calls. The machine packs a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery. It is the same battery the Galaxy Grand has. A quad core device could have rather better battery. Otherwise, at the end of the day, things won't be much good for the handset.  It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as key connectivity options. When it comes to sensors, it has accelerometer and proximity sensors. A-GPS support and Java MIDP emulator are some other notable features of the handset from Micromax.
