BARCELONA, Spain--Well that was quick. It's hasn't even been a year since the launch of the PadFone 2 back in October 2012 and a new PadFone is making a debut here in Barcelona. Last year's MWC saw the launch of the first PadFone, so this kind of makes the PadFone Infinity a PadFone 2.5 by our reckoning.

Specs-wise the Infinity's smartphone component boasts of a 5-inch 1080p display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz processor. It also packs a 13-megapixel F2 camera and a unibody design (which means a non-removable 2,400mAh battery) made of aerospace-grade aluminum alloy.

Other smartphone specs include 2GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage and another 50GB of cloud storage provided by Asus. It will run the latest Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)

The PadFone Station, the tablet part, features a full-HD 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1200 pixels and has a built-in 5,000mAh battery inside. The PadFone Infinity is slated for a April release and will retail for 999 Euros (US$1,325).

Apart from the PadFone, Asus also unveiled a 7-inch Intel Atom-powered tablet called the Fonepad. Powered by a single-core Intel Atom Z2420 1.2GHz processor, the Fonepad runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and is clad in aluminum, giving it a very sexy look.

The Fonepad, as the name suggests, is meant to be used as a phone. That's right, you'll be holding this tablet up to your face when you answer a call. If you thought holding up the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was ridiculous, you haven't yet seen how silly you look when you hold up a 7-inch tablet to your face.

The 7-inch tablet has a display resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, and will have 1GB of RAM as well as 8, 16, or 32GB of storage. It also has a microSD card slot if you run out of space. The tablet has a 4,270mAh battery that's slated to provide up to 9 hours of uptime.

The 8GB FonePad will hit stores in Asia sometime in March with a retail pricing of US$249.
