Owner of charred Audi R8 seeks explanation - Indian Express

Denies company claim that car was modified. A day after a mystery fire reduced his Audi R8 costing around Rs 1.8 crore to a skeleton at the Worli end of Bandra-Worli Sea Link, construction businessman Bhavesh Thakkar sent an email to the company in Germany demanding explanation. He denied modifying the car, as claimed by Audi India spokesperson, and expressed concern for owners of other Audis. "This is not the first incident of an Audi R8 catching fire. Similar incidents have occurred in Dubai and Toronto. If there are any owners of Audi R8s in the city, they should get their vehicles checked," Thakkar said. He was going to his Worli residence with a friend when the vehicle caught fire. They were saved by participants of a car rally passing through the sea link. "I am in shock at the narrow escape I had Sunday. I bought the car over a year ago when I started my business," Thakkar said. A spokesperson said Audi maintained its earlier stand and had no new comment to offer. The spokesperson said the company had not received complaints from other owners of the model. Now, Alto goes up in flames A Maruti Alto taxi caught fire near Mahalakshmi Temple on Bhulabhai Desai Road Monday night. The fire control room received a call at around 8. pm and rushed a fire tender to the site. "I was exiting Mahalakshmi Temple with wife and was waiting for my car when I saw the taxi pass, its underside on fire. My driver sped after it, calling out to the driver to stop. Finally, he managed to get him to stop and get out. A constable rushed to help and some residents poured water but it was of no help. The fire brigade arrived after around 35 minutes, by which time the taxi was destroyed. I don't think it will even be worth scrap now," said business consultant K K Govindan, an eyewitness.
