Open-source robot prototype out - Hindu Business Line

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 20:

International Centre for Free and Open Source Software has developed a low-cost 'tele-presence' robot prototype based on open source hardware and software platforms.

Tele-presence robots are devices controlled remotely by a human operator, typically from a laptop, over the Internet or other kinds of networks.

Called TR-7, it was developed as a part of an android project of the Union Department of Information Technology, a spokesperson for the centre said.

It was fabricated by Ingen Robotics, a local firm focusing on new-generation robotics.

The user can drive the robot around and see and hear from the remote location using the built-in camera and microphone.
